What is the Immersion Program?

The Mental Health Immersion/Internship Program at the Moving Forward Psychological Institute (MFPI) is a 12-week, hands-on internship for individuals age 16 and older who want to explore careers in mental health, public health, or community services.

Whether you’re a high school graduate, a college student, or someone shifting careers, the Immersion Program offers structured learning guided by experienced mentors in a mission-driven environment.

Who Can Apply?

We welcome applicants who:

  • Are 16 years or older
  • Demonstrate emotional maturity, teamwork, and responsibility
  • Are passionate about community well-being
  • Can commit 15–30 hours per week for 12 weeks at our Fountain Valley office
  • Are seeking school credit, job training, or a stepping stone into the field

We accept students from institutions like CSUF, UCI, and local colleges, as well as adults enrolled in WIOA, Incumbent worker training, or returning to the workforce.

What You Will Do

Interns follow a custom learning plan that may include:

  • Designing and presenting a capstone project (examples: health booth, wellness class, SNF pitch mental health fair)
  • Learning case management, community outreach, and health education
  • Assisting with program development, event organizing, and record-keeping
  • Gaining training in field safety and crisis response
  • Practicing professional communication, soft skills, and organizational culture

Interns also receive:

  • Weekly check-ins with a supervisor
  • Team-based support and mentorship
  • A certificate of completion and new professional references
